Eating Paleo

The Paleo Challenge has begun! The decision to actually jump on this bandwagon took me a bit to agree to. Frankly, I was hestitant because I wasn’t , or should say, not, convinced that refraining from eating many of the things I enjoy would produce measurable results for me. I didn’t see how drinking milk in my coffee was hindering my ability to PR on benchmark workouts, or how the oatmeal I ate some mornings was really messing up my body. But my affiliate decided that they would do a 12 week Paleo/Zone Challenge and I didn’t want to be the odd man out. So I decided to buy in and give it a try.

Simply put the Paleo Diet consists of lean meats, veggies, nuts and seeds, fruit and good fat. Now as easy as this list is, the list of Paleo no-nos stretches on for a while. The highlights include eliminating things such as: dairy (milk, cheese, etc), grains (bread, pasta, etc), legumes (beans, peanuts,etc), and sugar, just to name a few. I am pretty confident that every single person who has ever gone on the Paleo diet, or even contemplated it has read Dr. Cordain’s book, “The Paleo Diet”. If you are interested in this eating style at all I would suggest picking up the book or checking out his website or blog. This will give you everything you need to know plus a little more. Other great “Primal” websites are Mark’s Daily Apple and Robb Wolf’s Website. Between these three and the 1.3 million other Paleo Blogs out there I think you are pretty much covered on knowing everything there is to know about Paleo.

So my personal journey is about to begin, but not however, after a long weekend of gluttonous eating. I spend most of my Sunday trying to eat many of the things that I not only was going to have to give up but usually don’t eat in the first place. I can’t tell you how long it had been since I actually ate ice cream, one of my very favorite things, but I definitely indulged in it last night. And my oh my was it delicious and very much worth every bite.

Now, Monday is upon me and I can’t say that I am overly excited to start this new lifestyle, but I am definitely ready. And I say start a new lifestyle, because it is a lifestyle change. I can’ t even think of this as a diet, because it isn’t. I am changing my lifestyle to accomodate a completely different eating style. I am not counting calories, or checking my fat intake. I am just sticking to the prescribed foods and staying away from the bad foods like, dairy, starches, legumes, and processed foods. Sounds easy right… ha, I guess will just have to wait to see how this day turns out.
